Earthquake in pakistan

	ISLAMABAD: A severe earthquake, measuring 6.1 on the Richter-scale, rocked upper parts of the country including federal capital, Geo News reported. According to the sources, the quake jolted cities including Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Peshawar, Mansehra, Abbotabad, Charsadda. The epicenter of the quake was Tajikistan.

Strong earthquake hits south-west Pakistan

An earthquake of magnitude 7.4 has hit south-western Pakistan, in a desert area bordering Iran and Afghanistan, the US Geological Survey says.

The quake struck at a depth of just 10km (6.2 miles) at 0123 on Wednesday (2023 GMT on Tuesday), some 55 km (34 miles) west of Dalbandin in Pakistan.

It was located several hundred kilometres from the Pakistani city of Quetta and the city of Zahedan, Iran.

The 7.6-magnitude Kashmir earthquake of October 2005 killed 73,000 people.

The area hit by the recent earthquake is sparsely populated and is located in a seismically active zone.

Brazil death toll rises as rescuers battle floods

 TERESOPOLIS: Rescue workers in Brazil braced for more rain on Friday as they struggled to reach areas cut off by massive floods and landslides that look certain to have killed more than 500 people.

In one of the country's worst natural disasters, rivers of mud tore through towns in the mountainous Serrana region outside Rio de Janeiro, leveling houses, throwing cars atop buildings and stranding thousands of residents.

"What happened here is absurd. It looks like the war in Vietnam," said Albertino Lazaro, 54, who took shelter in a gymnasium set up to house displaced families in the town of Teresopolis, where at least 223 people were killed.

"It's a lot better than being out there in the mud," he said of the shelter as children played soccer among families sleeping on mattresses.
